San Francisco Jet Charter can look for a smoking-permitted aircraft for clients traveling from the Bay Area, and it is worth knowing how limited that has become.
Most charter aircraft are non-smoking
The large majority of aircraft on charter certificates today are non-smoking, and the decision belongs to the operator and the aircraft owner rather than to us or to the crew. Some operators permit it on specific aircraft, many do not permit it at all, and a few allow it only with the owner’s agreement for that particular flight.
So it can often be arranged, but not on every aircraft, and cannot be arranged last minute.
Say so before the quote
Upon booking your flight, please let us know prior to the quoting process if this is something you require on your trip. Raising it early means we search only the aircraft that can actually accommodate it. Raising it afterward frequently means starting the search again, and on a busy date that can cost you the aircraft.
Tell us what you intend to smoke as well, because operator policies differ between cigarettes, cigars and pipes.
If you prefer a non-smoking cabin
That is the default and no arrangement is needed. If you are sensitive to residual odor, mention it, and your advisor can take it into account when selecting between aircraft.
International flights
On flights crossing borders, the destination country’s rules apply on the ground regardless of what was permitted in the air, and tobacco import limits are enforced at customs like any other goods.

Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
San Francisco-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
Tower hours determine the trips more than anything else. Only San Francisco International and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport are towered around the clock; Hayward Executive closes in the late afternoon, and Livermore runs weekday daytime hours with a short window on weekends. For an early departure or a late return, that difference decides the airport. Customs is narrow in this region too, with San Francisco, Oakland, Mineta San Jose and Monterey Regional the fields that clear international arrivals. Trips into the Sierra are their own case, where elevation and terrain shape the aircraft choice more than the distance does.
