Humanitarian Relief Efforts

San Francisco Jet Charter arranges relief and humanitarian flights from Northern California, moving aid teams and supplies to where they are needed.

Getting people and supplies in

Relief operations start when commercial service into a region has stopped or was never there. We arrange passenger charters for response teams, cargo charters for supplies and equipment, and combinations of both where the team travels with its own load.

Aircraft selection is decided by the field at the far end. Damaged or short runways rule out most jets, and a turboprop reaches strips that jets cannot use. Where the airport is intact and the load is large, a freighter moves much more in one trip. Your advisor will work through the options with you against what is actually open.

Wildfire and disaster response in California

Northern California’s own fire season creates demand for this work close to home, including moving personnel and equipment between the Central Valley, the Sierra and the north state. The regional airports covered by our destination pages are frequently the useful ones for that.

Cargo and what travels

Tell us the weight, the dimensions and whether anything is classified as dangerous goods. Medical supplies, fuel, batteries and generators all have handling requirements that change which operators can take the work, and it is far better to establish that before the aircraft is committed.

Crossing borders

International relief flights need landing permits and customs authorizations. Permits are generally applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule, and sometimes the timeline is dictated by the local airport authorities. In a disaster response the receiving authority’s procedures may also change at short notice.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

San Francisco-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Tower hours determine the trips more than anything else. Only San Francisco International and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport are towered around the clock; Hayward Executive closes in the late afternoon, and Livermore runs weekday daytime hours with a short window on weekends. For an early departure or a late return, that difference decides the airport. Customs is narrow in this region too, with San Francisco, Oakland, Mineta San Jose and Monterey Regional the fields that clear international arrivals. Trips into the Sierra are their own case, where elevation and terrain shape the aircraft choice more than the distance does.
