Family Office Aviation

San Francisco Jet Charter works with family offices across the Bay Area, and the brief is usually different from a corporate one. The travel is mixed, it recurs, and the people arranging it are managing a household as well as a schedule.

What the work looks like

A principal moving between the Bay Area and a second home. Family traveling together at holidays. Staff and luggage on a separate leg. Pets on board. A property in Tahoe or Napa that needs regular access through the season. It rarely follows one pattern, and the value of having an advisor who knows the family’s preferences is that you stop re-explaining them every trip.

You deal with the same person each time. Preferences on aircraft, catering, ground arrangements and scheduling stay on file, so a request in November does not start from scratch because the last trip was in June.

Privacy

Passenger details and itineraries are shared only on a strict need-to-know basis, with the operator and the crew assigned to the flight. For a family office that is usually the first question asked and the reason the conversation is happening at all.

Aircraft ownership questions

If the family is weighing whether to buy, we can talk about that separately. We arrange charter, and we also work on aircraft sales and acquisition. Chartering for a year first is often the cheapest way to find out what the household actually uses, rather than buying into a size and then discovering the trips are shorter than expected.

Vetting, every trip

Every flight we arrange is operated by a certified air carrier under FAR Part 135, or Part 121 for airliner-size aircraft, or the foreign equivalent on international legs. We confirm the operator’s certification and insurance, review its safety and incident history, and confirm the crew are qualified and current on the aircraft type you will be flying on. You can read the detail on our safety page.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

San Francisco-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Tower hours determine the trips more than anything else. Only San Francisco International and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport are towered around the clock; Hayward Executive closes in the late afternoon, and Livermore runs weekday daytime hours with a short window on weekends. For an early departure or a late return, that difference decides the airport. Customs is narrow in this region too, with San Francisco, Oakland, Mineta San Jose and Monterey Regional the fields that clear international arrivals. Trips into the Sierra are their own case, where elevation and terrain shape the aircraft choice more than the distance does.
