Sports Team Air Charter

San Francisco Jet Charter arranges team travel for professional, collegiate and youth programs based in or traveling to Northern California.

A team is not a group of passengers

Team travel has its own shape. The roster, coaching and support staff move together, the equipment is bulky and heavy, and the schedule is set by a season calendar that nobody is going to change for an airline. Games run long, and a charter waits where a scheduled departure does not.

The aircraft gets chosen around three things: the headcount, the equipment load, and the runway at both ends. Seat count alone will not do it, because the gear frequently decides the aircraft before the passengers do. Send us the equipment manifest with the traveling party and your advisor will size it properly.

Squad size and the rules

A travel party above nineteen passengers calls for an airliner-size aircraft, and those flights operate under FAR Part 121 or a foreign equivalent rather than FAR Part 135. Part 121 and its equivalents generally carry stricter crew and operating requirements than both Part 91 and Part 135. Most full rosters with staff land in this bracket, so tell us the headcount early.

Recovery and turnaround

Flying home the same night gets players into their own beds and back into the training week a day earlier. That is usually the argument for chartering over a commercial return the next morning, and on a short West Coast road trip it can be the difference between one lost day and two.

Season-long arrangements

If you are planning a season rather than a single trip, tell us the schedule. Knowing the pattern lets us plan the aircraft and the crews around it. Call +1-888-987-5387 to talk to an advisor.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

San Francisco-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Tower hours determine the trips more than anything else. Only San Francisco International and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport are towered around the clock; Hayward Executive closes in the late afternoon, and Livermore runs weekday daytime hours with a short window on weekends. For an early departure or a late return, that difference decides the airport. Customs is narrow in this region too, with San Francisco, Oakland, Mineta San Jose and Monterey Regional the fields that clear international arrivals. Trips into the Sierra are their own case, where elevation and terrain shape the aircraft choice more than the distance does.
